Troop Information
Delano Boy Scout Troop 273 has roughly 35 registered scouts. We are chartered by the Delano American Legion. This boy-led troop empowers boys to be leaders by allowing them to develop a troop program and then take responsibility for figuring out how to achieve their goals. They accomplish this by electing a senior patrol leader and then organizing into groups of patrols under the guidance of the scoutmaster.
The troop schedules one or two events each month consisting of campouts, backpackingn trips, community service projects as well as a variety of other activities.
Troop Meetings
Date: Each Monday of the Month
Time: 7:00-8:15pm (typically)
Location: Above the Old Library or Delano Legion
The first Tuesday of the month however, is generally reserved for the PLC (Patrol Leader Council) from 6:30-7:30pm.
Committee Meetings (Committee Members and Parents)
The committee meetings are generally held the first Tuesday of each month from 7:45-8:45pm, immediately following the PLC meetings. ALL parents are welcome and encouraged to attend! Please check the calendar for up-to-date information. Scouting is for parents too! Active, committed adult leaders and parents are the heart and soul of a successful Boy Scout Troop. A little time and a little effort can make a huge difference in a young man's life. Volunteer to help at one of our many events . . . you'll be glad you did!
Summer Camp
Troop 273 attends summer camp for one week in either July or August at one of the Boy Scout of America camps near us such as Many Point, Decorah, or Tomahawk. The troop uses this time to teach our younger scouts the skills needed for Tenderfoot and Second Class, to provide older scouts with the opportunity to complete merit badges in a variety of categories, and to challenge our oldest scouts with high adventure type outings if they so choose. But most of all to HAVE FUN OUTDOORS!!
High Adventure
High Adventure is for scouts who are 14 years of age or older, have completed the 8th grade and have obtained the rank of First Class. Troop 273 strives to participate in a High Adventure every two years to allow for fundraising. The most recent trip was to Seabase in Florida which included snorkeling, sailing, island camping, deep sea fishing, sight-seeing in the Keys and much more. Their current goal is a high adventure trip backpacking in the mountains of New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch in 2012!
