Yes. As a program for the entire family, Cub Scouting can teach your son or daughter a wholesome system of values and beliefs while building and strengthening relationships among family members. Parents participate right alongside their Scout, helping your child grow of their development within scouting.
How can I become an adult volunteer in Cub Scouting?
We are a volunteer-run organization, and we can only provide a good program when we have active parents. Furthermore, every year we lose leaders as scouts age out of the Pack. We are always in need of Den Leaders and Committee Members, but if leadership isn't your thing, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities at Pack and Den events throughout the year. Express your interest to the pack leaders—the committee chair, Cubmaster or a Den Leader. We work as a team of adults and there are many training resources to help you along your way.
Cub Scouting is for boys and girls in Kindergarten through fifth grades, or 6 to 10 years of age. Kids who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouts, but they are eligible to join a Scout Troop.
Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting— duty to God, country, and community. Many of the activities happen in the den (with the children in their grade) or with the entire pack (with all the grade levels). Our Scouts always partake in plenty of outdoor and indoor activities to help them achieve their goals.
At minimum, each child in Cub Scouting will need a uniform shirt with the proper patches and a handbook. The Pack will provide the handbook, neckerchief and slide. Your scout will need a BLUE uniform shirt and a good attitude!
NOTE: If your scout is joining as a forth grader (Webelos Rank) they can choose to get a TAN uniform shirt.
ANY TIME! Like most Cub Scout Packs, we go year-round. You can join and become a Scout whenever it works for your family. Just contact our Cubmaster or Chair. We are happy to share information and have you take part in an activity or two before you make a commitment.
During the school year, we meet about 2-3 times a month, depending on the activities. During the summer we meet about ONCE a month.
Pack Meetings (all scouts, K-5th grade) - lead by Cubmaster, are held once a month, typically the third Monday of each month
Den Meetings (one age group meets) - lead by Den Leader, are held once a month. Additional meetings could happen if there are specific outings or activities planned for the den
About once every other month we have a special event on a weekend, such as a camping trip or service project.
NOTE: We do not require attendance in our pack. However, we do encourage families to priotritize meetings, activities and events when they can to get the MOST out of Scouting.
The annual fee is around $205. A new uniform with proper patches runs around $50-60 but the shirt is good for several years, so uniform costs do go down as you move through the ranks.
We are not worried about the fees being paid up front. We can work with you. Scouting is actually quite reasonable considering all that your child will be doing throughout the year. Don't let the cost get in the way of your decision
Our Council, Northern Star Scouting, is dedicated to making Scouting accessible to all families, regardless of financial circumstances. Financial assistance is available at the individual level for those families in need.
